The program was held against the backdrop of the TarraWarra International 2019: The Tangible Trace curated by Victoria Lynn.

TRACE AND LEGACY IN THE ART WORLD

Panellist include: Maree Clarke, Jonathan Jones and Sangeeta Sandrasegar

In art, the trace refers to a residue or marker that hints at an unseen knowledge, body or idea. But through history, artists have themselves left traces of their ideas and visions in the culture influencing new generations of artists in the process. This panel surveys the forces that are shaping the way we understand art history as well as the ways in which we define and record artistic legacies in a post-digital world. It also asks: to what extent does this changing definition of the artistic trace offer a chance to remake and remould the canon? And what measures must we take to ensure that we preserve the contributions made by artists breaking new ground today in the future?
